SUCCESSFUL SHOES

The leather shoe industry commands a ludicrous bottom line. Can you guess the yearly market cap? It's just $53... $53 Billion that is. – That surpasses coffee, tea, plastic, and a ton of other small commodities. Nashville alone makes up 1/3 of the US markets in leather! Cowboy boots much?! 

BEAUTIFUL BOOKS

Is it really a book if it isn't leather? Okay yes it still is. BUT. There is something special about a story told from a leatherback book. They give libraries signature smell. Recently the Library of Congress had to find a way to save the bindings of their leather books as many are aged well over 100 years now. The solution was a silicone emulsion to mat down the leather to prevent any future deterioration. 

FEET FIRST

The world's first shoelaces were produced in 1790. Doesn't seem that long ago does it? The first soles were leather of course. It's funny to think horses had shoes before people actually had shoelaces and sophisticated shoes.

18TH HOLE LEATHER

The first golf balls ever made were cowhide. The most sophisticated sport of our time (well aside from chess maybe) was surrounded by the thought of hitting about cowhide balls could be a fun pastime. Sometimes the most sophisticated of things have humble beginnings. Much like our Nashville area leather shop!

LEATHER MADE FROM HUMAN SKIN EXISTS... YIKES

A discerning thought, yes. But a fact. Human leather has been a marketable commodity since the 1700 hundreds as kings would wear the hides of their conquered enemies. As you would assume barbaric practices such as those were common in early civilization. You'll surely be shocked to know that human leather making is fully legal and can be purchased online! I suppose it's true what they say - you can buy anything on the internet today!

We have the finest hides in all of Tennessee so be sure to stop in Smyrna and see us! Sorry to disappoint though... No human hides ;). They are just not in-season in the Nashville Area!
